RULES & REGULATIONS

Prepare for a great experience at the Great North Dog Walk in Partnership with Dogs Trust by watching some useful videos.

To whom it may concern:

To clarify the rules of The Great North Dog Walk in Partnership with Dogs Trust. The exact distance of the course is 3 miles (4.8 km). The Kennel Club of Great Britain states that there are approximately 185 registered breeds. The number of participating dogs in 2018 was 33,149 and 185 breeds. Official staged start is at 10.30am and we ask that you do not walk before this time. However, registration is from 9.00am until 3pm which is "Last Entry".

The rules that I have formulated are in the best interest of the animals and owners and are as follows:

  • 1. All dogs must be on a lead.
  • 2. Any dog listed as dangerous breeds or ill-tempered must be muzzled.
  • 3. a) One dog per person with a maximum of 4 dogs per person allowed.
         b) There is no limit to the number of people that wish to walk one or more dogs, eg, one dog can have 20 walkers, two dogs can      have 15 walkers, etc.
  • 4. One container, bag "poop-scoop" per person.
  • 5. Emphasis on non-socialising of dogs.
  • 6. Water readily available at the start, on the course and at the finish.
  • 7. Large bins, strategically placed for disposal of animal and human consumption.
  • 8. Marshals and counters, clearly identified and strategically positioned.
  • 9. All dogs must have had relevant inoculations.
  • 10. Course to be clearly defined, marked out, start and finish etc. (maps supplied).
  • 11. Emphasis: "Safety at all times!".
  • 12. Westoe Vets Ltd, Vets4Pets both South Shields and St John Ambulance for First Aid on standby.
  • 13. Emphasis on participation and enjoyment.
  • 14. Authentication at the start of event, i.e. sponsor form to be stamped/signed by organiser.
  • 15. Registration Tent to be set up for pre-registered and new on the day registrations from 8.30 am onwards.
  • 16. All participants receive a certificate.
  • 17. The responsibility of all participants, should their dog foul, is to clean it up.
  • 18. Participants can only raise sponsorship/funds/donations from the Official Beneficiary List on the Website.
  • Note: Failure to comply with the above, especially rule 17, may result in future walks being cancelled.
